Finding the Real Value in WebRTC
In the last several years WebRTC has been herald both as the telecommunications savior as well as its nightmare. Despite some challenges in implementation, Amazon, Facebook, and now finally Apple are all working to make their offerings WebRTC-friendly. It has even made its way into pop culture, as it may be what saves Pied Piper (of HBO’s "Silicon Valley" fame). Through all of this, WebRTC can present itself as a troubling for developers who struggle to maximize its value. They ask: it adds voice, data-channels, and video; so what?

The telecommunications industry is huge, but innovation continues to be hampered by the complexity and amount of time it takes to acquire and add calling and messaging capabilities to new applications and services. There is a new wave of software providers, armed with powerful APIs & SDKs, who are transforming the industry by giving enterprise developers direct access to carrier-grade telephony resources. Getting Your Asterisk In Gear: Web Services Edition
It’s time to broaden our horizons and stop thinking of Asterisk as a standalone system, but as a critical real-time component in an increasingly services-based world. Even if it’s something as simple as your company IVR, integrating Asterisk into the greater Internet can do amazing things – how about leaving status updates from Twitter for after-hours interactivity? This session will focus on ways to integrate Asterisk into a larger ecosystem of web services using solutions like Docker, Redis, Kafka and Adhearsion.

We’ll cover what tools exist to help get information in and out of your Asterisk, multiple scenarios in which that information could be useful in other business situations, and practical examples. We’ll take a walk through the backend systems of a wireless telecom powered by open-source software and examine how scale starts to affect different pieces of the infrastructure, from billing to customer support and, as promised, how you manage your Twitter feed!

Creating an cluster has never been easier, so let’s get your Asterisk in gear.

ARI Scaling and Production
The way we build applications around Asterisk has completely changed over the past couple of years. We now have the ARI leaving Asterisk to be a dumb media engine driven by your application using the ARI. This is great, but the way we write applications with the ARI needs to be different to how we would typically tackle application development with the AGI or even AMI. Creating a scalable solution that doesn't grind to its knees when there's an issue is vital. Building for resilience and uptime in the ARI era is completely different to how we may have done it just a few years ago. Come hear how to build a solution which isn't rigid, isn't monolithic and isn't going to collapse at the first issue thrown at it. Come hear how you can create a highly scalable, stable and secure solution for this generation.

Asterisk and the Social Internet of Things
Asterisk support for WebRTC and websocket based SIP clients combined with cloud connectivity enablement has allowed us to build out a distributed voice-enabled social network, with social connections between organizations and colleagues, and Asterisk-based PBXs.
Using an IoT inspired model, our Asterisk based PBXs participate in a pure web-tech based social network, wanderweb.net, by signing in to the same https service as ordinary human users. Javascript is served up to an Node based shell to enable web-driven code-on-demand applications to run on site.
The wanderweb.net IoT client is a code-on-demand application delivered to the Node.js shell on the Asterisk PBX. It authenticates with, then opens a secure websocket to wanderweb.net. It also opens websockets to Asterisk as required for SIP registrations. The websockets are bridged in order to deliver bidirectional SIP communications between the Asterisk instance and a SIP proxy in the cloud. The same websocket is also used for OAM and http connection to the platform.
The rapid advances of ARM SoC based platforms, driven by mobile applications, has resulted in the availability of many powerful, low cost, energy efficient platforms that are ideal for Asterisk applications. At the same time, Linux distributions such as Ubuntu now have standardized ARM architecture software ecosystems. We have released a quad core ARM based PBX/Gateway product that runs Asterisk and the rest of our software stack, as used on our more traditional Intel architecture products. This includes the WebRTC and IoT client features. With this we are able to offer an extremely low cost on-site solution that supports WebRTC based UC mobility through its interaction with wanderweb.net.T

Just Married: Open Stack and Asterisk
OpenStack is the hottest platform for deploying a cloud. However, what is a "cloud" actually made up of? What is OpenStack? What does it take to deploy OpenStack? Is there a way to deploy OpenStack in a home lab? Is it possible to get Asterisk running "in" the cloud? All of these questions will be answered, including tracing calls through virtually deployed environments.

Lowering Asterisk Registration Rates with Mid-registrar
VoIP setups with a majority of subscribers using mobile devices with high registration rates can put a lot of strain or even become performance killers for advanced PBX systems such as Asterisk. By adding a mid-registrar layer capable of converting the high-rate incoming traffic into a low-rate variant (by changing the registration lifetime / expiry time), we can both improve the scalability and reduce the complexity of such platforms. The presentation will cover the scenario description, common pitfalls and possible ways of overcoming them, as well as a live demo using the latest open-source software available.

OpenSIPS Cluster: a natural choice for building your distributed VoIP Platform
OpenSIPS 2.2.0 comes with a new built-in clustering support - an easy way to grow your OpenSIPS based platform for scaling and geo-distribution. Data and services are naturally shared and extended across all OpenSIPS instances inside a cluster - global handling of dialogs, call limits or user registrations. The clustering support extends further OpenSIPS itself, allowing global handling of external clusters, such as Asterisk pools of servers. It will show how easy it is to create a setup that increases your platform's capacity and makes it easy to scale.

What's new in the world of Speech Recognition?
Earlier this year, Google made waves by announcing the availability of their speech recognition API as a paid service. This means that developers using Google’s API, for the first time, can build real applications on their platform without fear of the service being yanked or altered unexpectedly. Besides having excellent accuracy, Google also covers many languages. This is just one example - the entire speech recognition and “conversational UI” space is heating up. This talk is a review of the options available to developers and integrators. We’ll explore what works best for telephony and Asterisk vs. mobile apps and WebRTC. We’ll look at features and limitations of the various engines in each context. We’ll also demo this technology in action, in Asterisk, in WebRTC, and in an appliance: Amazon’s Echo.

Catching Fraudsters with Asterisk!
There are lots of services out there that provide phone fraud detection, alerting, speaker recognition, call content analysis, etc.
The selection in huge.
How can a merchant even tell if he’s got a phone fraud problem?
And once he admits the problem exist - how can he address the situation?

This session will review few methods of fraud detection and prevention,
while focusing about how can a merchant/call-centre take advantage of
Asterisk (combined with couple of open-source libraries) and start catching fraudsters.

And the cherry on top:
The merchant’s website can help catch (phone) fraudsters as well!

This session will include few (real world!) examples that show how few
countermeasures can reduce and even eradicate a fraud problem from your call-centre.

Building a Custom Open Source Asterisk Module that Enables Web Streaming, Text-to-Speech, Prompts, Music, and More
Want to learn how to take modern web technology such as streaming, and apply it to sound files so they can be easily scaled up? At Telmate, we’ve built an open source Asterisk module that allows you to do just that! Plus you can do away with all your scalability woes.

Hear about all the trials and travails we’ve experienced at Telmate while navigating through different technologies to help us accomplish high availability and scalable sounds.

As you already know, managing your sound files can be a daunting task for any business; particularly when it comes to sound generation and TTS.

When the session is over you’ll walk away with some cool, new implementations and methodologies that you can take back and apply to your Asterisk cluster. We’ll also point you to the project where you can “GIT” the information. Cool, right?

Using Asterisk and XMPP to provide greater tools to your customers and your users
In this talk I'll show how to make use of Asterisk and XMPP to create tools and facilities that can improve the customer and the user experience.
I'll start with a brief XMPP protocol introduction and its support in Asterisk and then I'll demonstrate two projects (both PoC) that I'm developing:
* IVR's Data Delivery (https://github.com/mhterres/IVR-Data-Delivery), that can be used to expose the data entered in IVR to other softwares used in a company in a simple manner. Using Asterisk ARI API and XMPP this project can optimize the customer experience. And using res_xmpp, the internal user experience can be improved by earlier caller identification.
* XyBot (https://github.com/mhterres/XyBot): XyBot was created to allow users to interact with Asterisk directly from their IM (XMPP) client. In our "unified communications" times, this project shows how to create your own features to attend your needs.
In the end, with the participation of audience, we will discuss more uses of this kind of integration.

Achieving 2000 seat multichannel contact centers with Asterisk
Presence Technology is a software company with more than 15 years which offers a best-in-class Multichannel Contact Center Solution which is recognized by Industry Leaders.
On this event, we would like to share a successful story of how Presence Technology decided using Asterisk to extend its Contact Center Solutions with full independence of the Telephony Platform the customer had. Presence Technology will explain how to achieve the utilization of Asterisk and made it scalable to support 2000 agents on a single setup.
In 2015, Presence OpenGate Architecture (powered by Asterisk) represented more than 80% of all deals Presence won. Clients are confident with the Solution & Asterisk Platform. This architecture is dispositioning other solutions such as Avaya, Genesys, etc.
Developing a full telephony platform from scratch was not feasible due to costs and timing, so Presence Technology decided to use Asterisk. Its Open Source approach allowed Presence adapting it to leverage a solution which will gather all features covered by the Avaya, such as: PBX, ACD, Call Classification, Terminal Registration, Encoding, VoIP Protocols, etc. Presence completed Asterisk great features and focus its resources on making it more scalable engineering an N+1 architecture which can be managed as 1 big system and including a common CTI Layer, ACD Engine, Classification Engine, Administration Layer, etc.
Today, and thanks to Asterisk, Presence Technology is able to provide a complete solution end-to-end with Voice, E-mail, SMS, Social Media, Chat and Video channels fully blended. It includes full automation for Voice Outbound and Inbound interactions, including IVR with TTS and ASR capabilities. This automation can be extended to non-voice channels using the Intelligent Routing engine.
Embedding Asterisk into Presence Technology Solution allows deliver a very easy to use solution. The Presence Contact Center Solution is scalable, flexible, affordable, and reliable. Contact Centers are complex environments and Presence just simplifies them.
